During data communication, no data was transmitted, or transmitted data was incomplete. | Device unplugged from host computer during communication. | Reconnect the programming cable to the host computer and re-transmit. |

Device turns itself off. | Device is inactive. | The device turns off after a period of inactivity. If the device is running on battery power, this period can be set to 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, or 30 minutes.

Device is not programmed for the bar code. | Verify that the device can read the type of bar code being scanned. Ensure that the bar code parameters are set properly for the bar code being scanned. | |
Device is not programmed to generate a beep. | Verify that a beep on a good decode is used. | |
