Issue: USB Printer Fails to Install after Connecting Printer (Before Installing the Printer Driver)

USB printer driver fails to install

The printer is connected to the Windows computer via USB and is not properly recognized by the system. The incorrectly Windows-assigned printer can not do a Windows test print from the selected USB-attached printer.

The USB Cable was installed before the printer drivers were pre-installed.

Windows installed the Windows generic printer driver.

Remedy

Operator
  1. Disconnect the printer USB cable from the Windows computer.
  2. The Zebra printer is not shown in the printers section of the
    Devices and Printers
window in the connected Windows computer.  The printer incorrectly shows as
    Unspecified
. You can use the Windows taskbar to search for
    Control Panel
    and open it. Select the
    Devices and Printers
    to open.
Unspecified Printer in Windows Devices and Printers.
Zebra printers display ZTC as a prefix to identify them easily.
  3. Click on the
    Unspecified Zebra printers
    in  the
    Devices and Printers
    window and delete.
  4. If you have not previously loaded the
    Windows Printer Driver v8
    , then load the
    Windows Printer Driver v8
now. See Pre-installing the Window's Driver to help you add the correct drivers to the system.
  5. Plug the printer USB cable into the Windows computer. The Zebra printer should now be added into the
    Printers
    section of the
    Devices and Printers
    window.
