Operator Controls

The printer's primary user interface controls are on the front of the device.
Depending on the state of the printer, the printer indicators may be off (not lit) or they may light up red, green, or yellow—either blinking or lighting up steady in a variety of patterns—to convey the printer's status and activities. See Resolve Alerts and Errors.

POWER
button) — Used to turn printer power ON and OFF, and to initiate low power sleep and wake states described below.
Be sure to turn printer power OFF before you connect or disconnect all communication interface and power cables. Printer power must be switched OFF when installing the printer driver.
Initial Power-On Mode
Press
POWER
to apply power to the printer.
The printer indicator lights flash in various combinations for several seconds as the printer starts up, performs self-diagnostics and configuration checks, and integrates optional components if any are installed.
The Status Indicator turns solid Green. The printer is now ready to print.
Sleep Mode
Press and release
POWER
once to place the printer in Sleep mode.
The printer turns off after storing various configuration and status information in memory. All the indicators are off except for the Status indicator which slowly lights on and off to indicate that the printer is in Sleep mode.
Power Off with Sleep Mode Delayed
This mode enables you to start a batch print job and put the printer into a low power consumption state (Sleep mode) after the job is done printing. Press and hold
POWER
for 4 to 9 seconds to enter this mode.
Power Off (shutdown)
To turn printer power OFF, press and hold
POWER
for 4 to 9 seconds.
Power Failure Recovery Mode (supports two modes: Sleep Mode and Power Off, and Sleep Mode Delayed)
Power Failure Recovery Mode is available ONLY on printers that have an (optional) printer connectivity module installed.
When this mode is activated, the printer automatically powers ON when plugged into an active AC power source.

button) — Pressing this button cancels print jobs.
To cancel printing the next format (label, tag, etc.) in the print buffer...
Press
CANCEL
one time.
To cancel the printing of ALL pending formats (labels, tags, etc.) in the print buffer...
Press and hold
CANCEL
for two seconds.

FEED
/Advance button) — Advance a label (print form/format).
To feed a single label (i.e., advance the media one blank form/format length of label, receipt, tag, ticket, etc.)...
Wait for the printer to stop printing, then press and release
FEED
.
To reprint the last label...
Use the SGD command
ezpl.reprint_mode
.
If the printer is turned off or is reset during a print operation, any jobs received and stored in the print buffer will be fully cleared. To avoid the loss of the job if a label fails to print, send the
ezpl.reprint_mode
command to the printer.
   (
Pause
button) — Pressing this button pauses all printing and media movement.
To stop print activities and place the printer into a Pause’ mode...
Press
PAUSE
.
The printer completes printing the label being printed and then enters Pause mode.
The Pause indicator lights up Amber (orange/yellow) to indicate Pause mode.
To return the printer to normal operation after being placed in Pause mode...
Press
PAUSE
.
If the printer was in the middle of a multi-label (form/format) print job—or if it is had another print job waiting in queue before you placed it in Pause mode—it exits Pause mode and resumes printing.
   (Printer Status and Power indicator) — Denotes overall printer health and operational status.
Green
The printer is ready to receive data and print.
Green, slowly and continuously turning on and off
The printer is in Sleep mode.
Red
  • The printer is out of media.
  • The printer encountered an error when trying to detect media.
  • The printer cover or printhead is open.
  • Printhead authentication failed.
Amber
  • Detected a printhead over temp (temperature) condition.
  • A printhead element failed.
  • The printer is out of memory to store additional content (formats, graphics, fonts, etc.).
  • A power fault was encountered for the USB Host/Serial port(s).
Amber, blinking
Detected a printhead under temp (temperature) condition.
Red, blinking (for both the Status indicator and the Pause indicator)
Detected a printhead over temp (temperature) condition.
Wait for the printhead to cool, then restart the printer.
   (Pause indicator) — When this indicator is lit, it denotes that the printer is in Pause mode.
In Pause mode, you can press
Cancel
to cancel one or more labels (print forms) in the print queue.
Amber
The printer is paused.
All printing, label feed/advance, and other label printing routines are suspended.
To exit the printer from Pause mode and resume print operations, press
PAUSE
.
Red, blinking (for the Status indicator and the Pause indicator simultaneously)
Indicates a printhead over temp (temperature) state.
Wait for the printhead to cool, then restart the printer.
   (Data indicator) — Indicates data transfer activity status.
Off
Data not being transferred.
Green
Data communication operation has not completed, but data is not actively being transferred.
Green, blinking
Data communication in process.
Amber, blinking
Out of memory while storing content (formats, graphics, fonts, etc.).
   (Supplies indicator)  — Indicates media (label, receipt, tags, etc.) loading status.
Red
The printer is out of media.
   (Network indicator) — Indicates network activity and status.
Amber
Detected 10-base Ethernet (LAN) connection.
Amber, blinking
Wi-Fi (WLAN) authentication in process.
Green
Detected 10/100 Ethernet (LAN) connection or strong Wi-Fi (WLAN) signal and connection.
Green, blinking
Connected to Wi-Fi (WLAN) with a weak signal.
Red
Detected faulty Ethernet (LAN) or Wi-Fi (WLAN) connection.
Red, blinking
Associating with Wi-Fi (WLAN).
