Placing the Roll in the Media Compartment

Use this procedure to load a roll of labels, receipt paper, tags or other compatible media into the printer before you print.
Remove the outside length of the media to prevent any accumulated dust or dirt from entering the media compartment during loading and printing.
Both inside and outside-wound media are loaded into the printer the same way using this procedure.
  1. Open the printer by pulling the release-latch levers toward the front of the printer (see Opening the Printer).
  2. Open the media guides by turning the media guide adjustment knob towards the rear of the printer.
  3. Open the media roll holders. Pull the media guides open with your free hand and place the media roll on the roll holders, then release the guides. Orient the media roll so that its printing surface will face up as it passes over the platen (drive) roller.
  4. Pull the media so that it extends out of the front of the printer. Verify the roll turns freely. The roll must not sit in the bottom of the media compartment. Verify that the media’s printing surface faces up.
  5. Push the media under both media guides.
  6. Close the media guides by turning the media guide adjustment knob to the front. The guides should just touch—but not restrict—the edges of the media.
  7. Unless you need to load transfer ribbon, close the top cover by releasing the cover lock, lowering the top cover, and pressing down until the latches snap into place (see Closing the Printer).
  8. If printer power is switched OFF, press the
    Power
switch apply power to the printer (see Power Switch).
  9. Press the
    Feed
button to feed the installed media.
The printer auto-calibrates to the loaded media (see Media Sensing) in preparation for printing.
