Using Linerless Cut Mode

Zebra recommends using Zebra ZeroLiner direct thermal linerless media.
  1. If you have not already done so, follow the instructions in Inserting the Media into the Printer.
  2. Open the printhead assembly by rotating the printhead-open lever upward.

  3. Slide the media guide all the way out.

    HOT SURFACE:
    The printhead may be hot and could cause severe burns. Allow the printhead to cool.
  4. Press down on the cutter release lever, and then pivot the cutter forward.

  5. Load the media as shown.
    1. From the media hanger (1), feed the media under the dancer assembly (2), through the media sensor (3), under the printhead assembly (4), and through the cutter (5).
      The cutter blade is sharp. Do NOT touch or rub the blade with your fingers.

    2. Slide the media back until it touches the inside back wall of the media sensor.
    3. Pivot the cutter back, and then apply pressure to the gold square on the front of the cutter to secure the cutter back into place.

    4. Ensure that the inboard edge of the media is fully under the label-taken sensor (1). If it is not, check that the roll of media is placed correctly on the media hanger and adjust the media inward along the entire path.

  6. Slide in the media guide until it just touches the edge of the media.

  7. Rotate the printhead-open lever downward until it locks the printhead in place.

  8. Close the media door.

  9. For the linerless cutter option to operate as designed, make sure that the firmware version is Link-OS 7.0 or later. Go to Upgrading the Printer Firmware for firmware updating instructions. See the note in the following step for older firmware versions.
  10. Set the following parameters through the control panel for linerless operation:

      In the following situations, set the printer to
      Cutter
      instead of
      Linerless Cut
      :
      • For the linerless cutter to behave as a standard cutter on a printer with older firmware
      • When using standard media (with a liner) with the linerless cutter
    2. Set the printer to
      Direct Thermal
      mode by touching
      Menu
      Print
      Print Quality
      Print Type
      .
    3. Set the printer to
      Continuous
      mode by touching
      Menu
      Print
      Print Quality
      Media Type
      .
  11. Press
    PAUSE
    to exit pause mode and enable printing.
    The printer may perform a label calibration or feed a label, depending on your settings.
  12. For optimal results, calibrate the printer (see Calibrating the Ribbon and Media Sensors).
  13. Verify that your printer can print a configuration label by holding both the
    FEED
    and
    CANCEL
    keys for 2 seconds.
