Forgotten Protected Mode Password

Forgotten Protected Mode Password

A forgotten Protected Mode password requires the printer to be formally decommissioned, as no recovery option is available.
When you decommission a printer (using ~PM command via USB connection):
  • The printer remains secure by default, as required by the EU Radio Equipment Directive (RED).
  • Protected Mode remains enabled to protect critical network settings.
  • Insecure services (such as FTP, HTTP, and SNMP) remain disabled.
  • Firmware download remains disabled until re-enabled via authentication.
  • You can set a new Protected Mode password upon reboot as part of the post-decommission setup.
For decommissioning instructions, refer to your printer’s user guide and the ZPL II, ZBI2, Set-Get-Do, Mirror, WML Programming Guide.
