Depending on the configuration, you may be unable to change the settings. If you do have the ability to configure settings, they remain in place if the administrator has not set any configuration.
As of Zebra Workstation Connect v8.1, the ability for users to sort desktop shortcuts from the home screen menu is deprecated. This feature remains supported in v8.1, however, will not receive further updates, and is scheduled for removal in a future release.
Right-clicking anywhere on the desktop home screen (or a long press if using a mobile computer) presents a home screen menu that allows:
Adding an application, website, file, or intent shortcut to the home screen for quick access.
Exporting all shortcuts.
Removing all shortcuts.
Sorting shortcuts by alphabetical order or by the date the shortcut was added.
