GPIO0 through GPIO3 are optically coupled to provide electrical isolation and wiring flexibility. GPIO4 through GPIO8 are 24 V Digital GPIO, which are not isolated and source power from the external power supply or Power over Ethernet (PoE). Digital GPIO is unavailable when the system is powered by USB. However, optocoupled GPIOs remain functional when COMMON_IN and COMMON_OUT are terminated appropriately.
