eMBMS Architecture

Broadcast components schedule, distribute, transmit, and receive eMBMS content.
The eMBMS architecture involves several key components working together:
  1. Broadcast Multicast Service Center (BM-SC):
The central entity that ingests content, schedules the broadcast, and delivers it to the mobile network.
  2. Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service Gateway (MBMS-GW):
A distribution point that sends broadcast traffic to relevant cell towers in the target area.
  3. Mobile Network (eNBs):
The cell towers receive the single stream and broadcast it over a dedicated radio channel within their coverage zone.
  4. User Device (UE):
A compatible device receives the broadcast through client software. The user can then view the content.
