Third-party devices are already supported for PTT Pro clients. However, managing third-party device IDs becomes complicated for customers using the PTT Pro shared device model.
PTT Pro customers deploying a shared device model must provision device IDs in the PTT Pro server device table of the appropriate site (called department in PTT Pro). Third-Party Devices complicate provisioning the device IDs because:
The device ID is not known until the PTT Pro application is loaded and opened on the device. Only then can the device ID be read out and provisioned into the PTT Pro server device table.
The device ID changes after a factory reset, meaning that the new device ID must be re-provisioned into the PTT Pro device table. In addition, the old device ID is no invalid and no longer tied to an active device.
In order to make managing third-party device IDs simpler, Automatic Provisioning has been added to the system. It can be used for Zebra devices as well as third-party devices.
