Interworking Gateway

The Interworking Gateway (IWG) allows third-party applications to send audio files and text messages to PTT Pro recipients. A recipient can be a PTT Pro user or a PTT Pro group.
ZEMS supports the IWG APIs:
Announce REST APIs
Allows audio messages to be submitted to ZEMS with a specified IWG endpoint. ZEMS processes the audio message and broadcasts it to the PTT Pro recipient specified by the IWG endpoint. PTT Pro recipients that are unavailable when the audio message is broadcast do not receive the message. Refer to the
Workcloud Communication Announcer REST API Developer Guide
for details regarding the API.
Messenger REST APIs
Allows text messages, with optional attachments, to be submitted to ZEMS with a specified IWG endpoint. ZEMS processes the message and forwards it to the PTT Pro recipients specified by the IWG endpoint. Refer to the
Workcloud Communication Messenger REST API Developer Guide
for details regarding the API.
Messages can be sent to recipients using one of two configurations:
  • ZEMS messaging enables PTT Pro users to receive messages on ZEMS. Choose this option if you are using ZEMS and IWG.
  • PTT Pro messaging enables PTT Pro users to receive messages through PTT Pro messaging. Choose this option if you are not using ZEMS.
ZEMS messaging is the default configuration. You are configured for PTT Pro messaging if you migrate from an IWG environment to ZEMS. Contact Zebra Support if you want to use ZEMS for messaging.
Messaging is only supported from external applications to an IWG endpoint. Messaging in the reverse direction is not supported.
