Issue: Erroneous Ribbon Cartridge Faults

Condition

  • Ribbon Out warning, but a ribbon cartridge is installed.
  • Ribbon Cartridge Authentication error, but a Genuine Zebra Ribbon Cartridge is installed and has not been refurbished or altered.

Cause: Cartridge Senser Not Reading Correctly

The Ribbon Cartridge Sensor Contact Pins or the Ribbon Cartridge’s Smart Chip’s contacts may be dirty or the chip may be damaged.

Remedy: Service the Cartridge Sensor

Internal Printer Support
  1. Clean the ribbon cartridge’s smart chip contact, if they look contaminated, with alcohol and lightly moistened cotton swab. Try a different cartridge if this does not work.
  2. Clean the Ribbon Cartridge Sensor Contact Pins. See Cleaning the Ribbon Cartridge Sensor.
  3. Reload printer firmware. See Updating Printer Firmware.
  4. If the printer does not recover from this error, call a service technician. This is not a user-serviceable item.
