Exercise 5: Enter Data for a Stored File with a Smart Device and Print a Label
Use Zebra Utilities on a smart device or phone to do basic printer operations.
The steps in this exercise may vary somewhat based on your smart device, on your service provider, or on whether you already have the free Zebra Utilities app installed on your smart device.
Refer to the Zebra Bluetooth User Guide for specific instructions for configuring the printer to use a Bluetooth interface. A copy of this manual is available at zebra.com/manuals.
If you do not have the Zebra Utilities app installed on the device, go to the app store for your device, search for the Zebra Utilities app, and install it.
To pair your smart device with the printer by holding the smart device next to the NFC icon on the printer.
If necessary, access the Bluetooth information about the printer using your smart device. For instructions, refer to the manufacturer’s documentation for your device.
If necessary, select the Zebra printer’s serial number to pair it with the device.
After your smart device has been detected by the printer, the printer may prompt you to accept or reject the pairing. If necessary, tap
ACCEPT
. Some smart devices will pair with the printer without this prompt.
Start the Zebra Utilities app on your device.
The Zebra Utilities main menu displays.
Perform these steps if you have an Apple device: to enable communication.
Touch the
Settings
(gear) icon in the lower-right corner.
Change the setting for
Get Labels From Printer
to
ON
.
Touch
Done
.
Touch
Files
The smart device gets data from the printer and displays it.
This retrieval process may take a minute or more to complete.
Scroll through the formats shown and select
E:SMARTDEVINPUT.ZPL
.
Based on the
^FN
field in the label format, the smart device prompts you for your name.
Enter your name at the prompt.
Change the quantity of labels to print, if desired.
