Configuring Text-to-Speech Output

The general accessibility menu section allows for quick adjustments to the text-to-speech output.
  1. Touch
    Preferred engine
    to change the preferred text-to-speech engine.
    The default preferred engine is Speech Recognition and Synthesis from Google.
  2. To access Google TTS Options, touch an illustration of the gear icon..
    1. To install voice data in other languages, touch
      Install voice data
      .
    2. To download voices data using only Wi-Fi, touch the
      Use Wi-Fi only
      toggle.
    3. To make spoken text louder than normal so it comes in more clear than other audio that is also playing, touch
      Amplify speech volume
      .
    4. To change language detection, touch
      Language detection
      and choose from the following:
      • Off
      • Conservative
        (default)
      • Aggressive
    5. To turn on anonymous usage reports, touch
      Anonymous usage reports
      On
      .
      When this feature is turned on, Google collects anonymous usage reports. Examples of metrics that Google collects:
      • How often text-to-speech is used.
      • The performance of text-to-speech requests.
      • Which languages are used.
      • How often text-to-speech fails to deliver speech output.
    6. To provide feedback to Google, touch

    to change the language of text-to-speech.
    The default language is the system language.
  4. Use the
    Speech rate
    slider to change the rate of speech speed.
  5. Use the
    Pitch
    slider to change the pitch of the speech
