When holding the scanner, do not allow your fingers to get any closer to the antenna structure (in the scanner head) than necessary. This can shield the tag from the RFID reader, reducing performance.
When reading multiple items, Zebra recommends passing one item at a time past the scanner. While you can pass many items at a time by the scanner, it can be difficult to correlate multiple beeps to multiple items at once.
Use care when reading metal items or items containing liquids. Such items can reduce tag read range or, in some cases, completely shield the tag from the reader. Always correlate the read beep with the item the scanner is reading (as with barcode scanning).
Avoid holding the RFID tag of the item the scanner is reading. Instead, hold the item and let the tag hang free to prevent your hand from reducing the read range.
Orient the tag toward the scanner if it has difficulty reading the tag. Moving the scanner or item in a figure-8 motion often helps.
If all else fails, scan the item’s barcode.
